What is your favorite whetstone series?
In 2003, at Homecenter Kohnan, I bought my first whetstone. It was a sweltering hot summer day.
My first santoku knife was dull, so I wanted to do something about it.
It has been 3 months since I started living by myself.
There was no longer my dad to sharpen the kitchen knives.
Have you ever had this kind of experience where you felt you were grown up because you could do certain things?
It was exciting. Right?
King Deluxe whetstones are manufactured by Matsunaga Stone Co. Ltd And…
King Deluxe is the best seller of the whetstone world
Compared to the newest whetstones, King Deluxe stones don’t have high grinding power.
However, the stability of the quality, usability,
And its affordable price still attracts a lot of knife sharpeners in the world.
King Deluxe No. 800
Compared to King Deluxe No. 1000, this No.800 is a little bit softer.
So you feel nicer when you are using this.
If your knife has some small chips in the edge, start sharpening your knife from this model.
Don’t forget to soak this whetstone for 10 minutes before using it.
So you can avoid clogging.
And you don’t need to add water many times while you are using it.
The grinding power of this King Deluxe No. 800 is a little lower than Ha No Kuromaku,
But considering that this series is a lot cheaper, this is a great option.
King Deluxe No. 1000
This model is really easy to use.
For homecooks, this No. 1000 whetstone should be sufficient.
I think this King Deluxe No. 1000 has less grinding power compared to the #1000 whetstones from other brands like Ha No Kuromaku and Chosera.
So you will have less failure even when you make a mistake.
But:
If you are a skilled knife sharpener, you might feel irritated.
Since it is a little slower to finish your sharpening job,
Especially stainless steel knives take longer to sharpen with this whetstone.
King Deluxe No. 1200
This whetstone has a nice size, so it is easy to use.
If you are a beginner, you can learn a lot from this whetstone.
This stone is like a textbook of knife sharpening.
You can make a variety of knife sharpness and edge conditions.
Like testing…
Different of amount of water on this stone while you are using,,
How much pressure you put on this,
And how much residue you keep on this.
Before buying other whetstones that have different fineness,
Learning how to use this one whetstone is another way to master sharpening your knife.
